My Entrepreneurship Story

I’ve been exposed to entrepreneurship quite a few times throughout my personal and professional career thus far. When I was a senior in high school, my good friend and I began a business as a project for our economics class. The project was a recreation center that specialized in extreme “games” rather than “sports”, and included games, practices, and tournaments such as extreme dodgeball, extreme kickball, extreme wall ball, and extreme water sports. It was a haven for adults that were interested in getting fit in a non-traditional sense while staying true to the roots of the games that they played when they were children. We created a mock business plan for it that included an organizational chart, planning summary, operating procedures, management summary, and a product brochure. We also created a commercial using an Apple application called iMovie. It was my first real taste of what it could be like to be an entrepreneur, and to this day I feel the business venture would be sustainable and ultimately a success.

I enrolled into ENT 3003 because the idea of being a part of a business venture has always intrigued me. To be a part of creating and/or growing a business has always been one of my professional goals, and obtaining the education to do it is absolutely critical to achieving that. I’m currently a Sport Management graduate student here at the University of Florida, and the idea of opening my own gym and being my own boss has always been in my mind. I look forward to learning all that I can about being a part of the world of entrepreneurship.

  1. Jared, very interesting post, I really enjoyed reading it. I think it is awesome that while you were in high school you and a friend came up with such a great idea that would most definitely attract a lot of young adults. I enrolled in this course to better my business skills and learn more about how the business world works. Good luck!

  2. Hey Jared! Thats awesome! I feel like that would be a very successful business. I think it would be very appealing to young adults. I think this class will be very beneficial to your career, especially that you already know what you want to do. I too hope to own my own business in the future. Wish you luck!
